Since Pg proteolytic activity is considered an essential mediator of tissue destruction in periodontitis, there might be significant implications for quantitative changes in the development of the related enzymes. 31 However, some studies showed that PDT, as an adjunct to SRP, did not provide any significant clinical and microbiological benefits. 32 - 34 The literature findings reviewed by Meisel and Kocher 35 indicated that adjunctive PDT does not minimize human periodontal pocket bacterial colonization compared to ultrasonic treatment alone.
