Here, we observed that LV tissue from male patients with end-stage heart failure due to DCM or ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) ( n = 8) displayed higher mRNA levels of the adipocyte marker CCAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha (CEBPA) (+133 ± 142%, P < 0.05) and a nonsignificant trend to higher COX-2 (+33 ± 91%, not significant) mRNA levels compared with LV samples from healthy male organ donors ( n = 6).
