While there was a slight trend of better replication of SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV in canine nasal cavity and soft palate explants, the levels were far lower than expected considering the abundance of ACE2 in these tissues and the high similarity between human and canine ACE2, with efficient binding of SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD) and SARS-CoV RBD proteins to canine ACE2 and transduction of SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV pseudoviruses into cells expressing canine ACE2 [ 2 , 27 , 28 ].
