Thus, there is an increasing trend towards organ preservation and local excision of early rectal cancers in certain patients. 4 , 5 Currently, local excision is only suitable as a curative procedure in early tumors with a low risk of lymph node metastases as local lymph nodes are not adequately addressed with this technique.
