Significantly, the fecal metabolites bilirubin, phenylalanine, and PE lyso 17:0 were positively correlated with the serum metabolites bilirubin, phenylalanine, and PE lyso 17:0 (r>0.5, P<0.05), respectively, suggesting that these core metabolites might be significant mediators between the intestinal tract and blood circulation ( Figure 4 and Figures S3,S4 ).
