The variables used for performing the risk assessment were only those relevant variables who may have contributed directly to mortality 8 and those variables that were highly significant in bivariate analysis that included age, race (white vs. nonwhite), sex (male vs. female), ISS, SBP of <90 mm Hg (hypotension) at initial presentation and history of coagulopathy, including use of anticoagulation.
