Introduction When asked about the relevance of patients' intellectual disabilities to the provision of care and treatment, all the medical practitioners reported that it was highly significant, with both diagnosis and treatment being perceived as “challenging.” The majority of respondents made much of the difficulties they experienced in communicating with, and managing what was perceived as the non‐conforming behaviour of patients with intellectual disabilities.
