The possibility that vascular risk factors may predispose to TEA was raised tentatively in a previous case control study, with associations—on the borderline of significance after correction for multiple comparisons—between TEA and cardiac arrhythmia, valve disease and arterial aneurysm. 74 Some patients with TEA have an initial episode closely resembling TGA, posing the question of whether TGA can sometimes lead to TEA.
