The results were a spotty mix of positives and negatives: plants that had been trained on lighted patches sent a significantly greater biomass of ramets to the lighted patches ( p < 0.05) as predicted, but not a greater number of ramets; and then the opposite relationship between number and biomass inexplicably occurred for ramets that had been trained in the shade (except that the p values here were not quite significant—between 0.05 and 0.1).
