At 24 h p.i., ST239‐III bacteria stably persisted intracellularly (45%) and exerted a highly significant cytotoxic activity against osteoblasts, due to the overexpression of hla , as demonstrated by a remarkable decrease in the cellular metabolic status, also confirmed by the expression of the uhp T gene (although not statistically significant).
