For preprandial glucose values between 70 and 119 mg/dl, the insulin dose to subtract (in case of a decreasing trend arrow) was increased by 0.5 U and the one to add (in case of an increasing trend arrow) was decreased by 0.5 U; for values between 181 and 250 mg/dl, the insulin dose was increased (increasing trend arrow) or decreased (decreasing trend arrow) by 0.5 U; and for values > 250 mg/dl, the insulin dose was increased or decreased by 1 U (Table 2 ).
