If patients have spiritual and religious needs and need to deal with existential challenges of identity and death, as experienced by the physicians in our study, meeting these might be significant for treatment and how to live with a chronic disease; moreover, to be able to discuss these needs, patients need a trustworthy relationship with the physician.
