These metabolites were mainly enriched in multiple alkaloid biosynthesis pathways, such as “Biosynthesis of alkaloids derived from histidine and purine” and “Biosynthesis of alkaloids derived from ornithine, lysine and nicotinic acid.” In addition, the extremely significant differences in “Stilbenoid, diarylheptanoid and gingerol biosynthesis,” “Phenylpropanoid biosynthesis,” “Biosynthesis of plant hormones,” and “Purine metabolism” are also noteworthy (Fig. 4 c).
