Midwifery led care is based on the principles of dignity, privacy and compassion for women and respectful maternal care.[ 9 ] In various studies it was observed that the advice given by midwives was the most important factor influencing the choice of birthing positions.[ 10 , 11 ] The decisions midwives make while supporting and caring for a woman are highly significant and influence a variety of childbirth outcomes.[ 12 ] India is one of the few countries where midwives are not independent service providers.
