We also detected marginally significant effects of increased social interactions (instrength and outstrength) associated with greater male mating success in carbohydrate-rich environments, with the opposite trend occurring in protein-rich environments (instrength-by-P:C ratio, χ 2 = 6.478, P = 0.011; and outstrength-by-P:C ratio, χ 2 = 5.733, P = 0.017; corrected significance threshold = 0.01; Fig. 3 ).
