The effects of age were controlled by including a predictor variable set equal to the age-specific death rates of Bangladeshi women in 2010 according to the World Health Organization (2021) ; this variable had no predictive value for women under 45, for whom mortality rates are a relatively flat function of age, but was a highly significant predictor for the older group, for whom mortality rates rise steeply with age.
