As a consequence of the small numbers and also due to the different time frames of the two cohorts, the pre-implementation and post-implementation groups did have characteristics that showed a statistical trend toward significance with respect to ECMO configuration (90 vs. 71% receiving VA-ECMO in the pre- vs. post-implementation cohorts, p = 0.10) and indication (29 vs. 47% primarily receiving ECMO support for primarily respiratory failure in the pre- vs. post-implementation cohorts, p = 0.15).
