In the ob/ob mice, we observed a significant upregulation of the mRNA expression of Ccl2 (a chemokine that regulates migration and infiltration of monocytes/macrophages), Adgre1 (a marker reflecting the total number of mature macrophages), Itgax (a marker of dendritic cells), and Cd68 (a marker of monocytes/macrophages), while a reduction of the expression of Cd163 (a marker of anti-inflammatory monocyte/macrophages), barely failed to attain statistical significance ( P = 0.060) in ob/ob mice compared to db/db and lean mice (Fig. 2 c).
