As an example, studies using transesophageal echocardiography after heart valve replacement surgery, the incidence of paravalvular leak varied from 3% to 6%, with a statistical trend for a higher prevalence in patients with mechanical valve prostheses. 11 In our study, prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM) was present in 3.76% of patients with bioprosthesis and in no patient with mechanical prosthesis and, for this reason, a simple descriptive analysis was performed.
