Interestingly, the potential antagonistic effect of tepoxalin and tariquidar identified in the two-dimensional drug assays was even more pronounced in the three-dimensional assays—the proportion of ABCB1 -expressing cells at the study end point was significantly more in the tepoxalin plus tariquidar condition than in tepoxalin treatment alone in the MCF7 and T47D lines (MCF7: p=0.0285, T47D: p<0.001), with borderline significance seen in the BT549 line (p=0.0804).
