Although this hypothesis can be properly checked only with ad hoc studies 11 , 33 , the interaction analysis reported in Table 4 and Supplementary Table 1 suggests that an increasing trend in the risk of death by tertile of DNA damage was present in all groups of subjects evaluated, i.e., non-exposed subjects, occupationally exposed subjects, and NCD patients.
