Their most relevant finding was the significant increase of several proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines like IL-15, IL-8, IL-17F, IP-10 and MIP-1β in CD patients and its highly significant correlation with the grade of small bowel mucosa atrophy, which plays a major role as a sign of small bowel mucosa inflammation and damage.
