Another important finding from our analysis was an increasing trend in early SPC refferals: in 2007, as few as 15% of patients were referred more than 3 months prior to death, while in 2017, 2018 and 2019, early referrals comprised 32, 31 and 29% of all referred patients, respectively.

Conclusion Throughout the existence of our SPC services we have observed a positive trend in the number of referrals, a lengthening of time between referral and death, as well as an increase in the proportion of patients with an early referral to SPC (more than 3 months before death).
