Studying the physiology and biochemistry of alkaliphilic and alkali-tolerant fungi is interesting as, on the one hand, it can facilitate the understanding of the mechanisms underlying the adaptation of these organisms to extreme environments and lead to the discovery of new and practically significant enzymes or secondary metabolites.
