Significance values of q < 10 −16 were considered extremely significant such that further increased significance is not meaningfully interpretable, so to improve visualization in Fig 2 these values were replaced with a random significance value sampled from a log-uniform distribution between 1 × 10 −16 and 3 × 10 −19 .
