On the basis of ensuring consistency of results with the previous meta-analysis, the strengths of this study were: (1) to update the Hcy status in recent years, and we observed a slightly increasing trend of HHcy prevalence in China; (2) to include more studies investigating the prevalence of HHcy in south China; (3) to perform meta-regression analysis on age and area (inland/coast) to determine the source, which could explain 42.3% of the between-study heterogeneity.
