Our results highlight the importance of LaMATE2-dependent isoflavonoid release in the early step of nodulation, since LaMATE2 silencing leads to a highly significant reduction (a. -80%) of nodules in LaMATE2 -RNAi compared to empty-vector transformed roots ( Figures 5C ; 6B , Supplementary Figure S4 ).
