All of the above might be significant in patients suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a condition characterized by the thickening and stiffening of the tissue surrounding the alveoli that shares several risk factors with COVID-19 ( 208 ) and has been independently associated with both influenza and Aspergillus infections ( 209 , 210 ).
