Moreover, some of the costs associated with redesigning the diagnostic machine so that it produces fewer false positives are likely to be significant: for example, replacing our religious devotion to a p -value of 0.05 with an even more demanding value, such as 0.005 ( Benjamin et al., 2018 ), would require researchers to use much larger sample sizes in their experiments.
