In contrast to previous studies showing higher rates of anxiety in FMR1 carriers ( 38 , 39 ), the mothers in the present study were not significantly higher in anxiety when compared to the normative sample; however, the difference relative to the general population just failed to reach statistical significance and could be attributed to a lack of power given our sample size.
