Although MCs are important elements of the innate and adaptive components of the immune system, and are normally involved in most immune responses, MC disorders have not previously been considered a possibly significant factor in the development of chronic vaccine-related AEs, perhaps because the only disorders of MCs previously recognized were acute allergic-type phenomena and the rare, malignant neoplastic MC disorder of mastocytosis.
