Several prior studies have associated bipolar disorder with altered concentrations of IL-1 receptor antagonist [ 18 , 35 , 43 , 44 ] and IL-6 [ 33 – 35 ], which in our results did not quite reach statistical significance in both cohorts when controlling for relevant covariates.
