Mean HbA1c of patients who were taking metformin was 7.8 ± 1.4 as compared to patients who were not using metformin (8.4 ± 1.5), and this difference is highly significant (p<0.001) Similarly, the patients who were using metformin had high values of bicarbonate as compared to non-users (23 ±3 and 19.7± 3.4, respectively), and this difference is highly significant in the two groups (p<0.001).
