Beside miR‐335‐5p, NGS analysis also showed a highly significant differential expression of miR‐186‐5p and of the miR‐30 family members, miR‐30b‐5p and miR‐30c‐5p. miR‐186‐5p has been shown to impact regulation of proliferation and apoptosis strongly and has been proposed to be involved in the pathogenesis of COPD. 22 , 23 To our knowledge, this is the first study, which connects directly increased miR‐186‐5p expression in association with fibrotic processes and TGF‐β signalling.
