The extreme drought-affected area in the tropical America showed a positive trend over time, while areas affected by droughts in tropical Africa and tropical Asia increased before the 1990s and then plateaued or decreased in the recent two decades (Fig. 3c ), contributing to the recent decrease in STD CGR .
