14 Taylor and colleagues demonstrated that three HIIT sessions weekly over 12 months induced a twofold reduction in liver fat compared with MICT, 15 although this was marginally non-significant (p = 0.077), likely due to the smaller sample size of the subanalysis (n = 42) in the original larger trial (n = 93). 16 In addition, Sabag and colleagues reported that performing low-volume HIIT (one 4-min session) 3 days weekly improved liver fat in inactive adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes. 17 Although the aforementioned studies showed that HIIT might be an effective approach for reducing liver fat, there have been few studies that have investigated the efficacy of low-frequency (e.g., once weekly) HIIT on liver fat reduction.
