Introduction Dyslipidemia and insulin resistance are common risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and their prevalence has shown an increasing trend. 1–3 Previous studies have found that 53.5% of patients with hypercholesterolemia have insulin resistance, 4 and 67.1% of patients with diabetes will also suffer from dyslipidemia. 5 The coexistence of the dyslipidemia and diabetes significantly increases the risk of stroke. 6 Epidemiologic studies have found that patients with insulin resistance and diabetes tended to have higher levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).
