Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection is an extremely significant step in the pathogenesis of NPC and can be observed in nearly 100% of nonkeratinizing NPCs in endemic areas. 1 Better yet, EBV has rarely been examined in normal nasopharyngeal epithelium. 5 Thus, detecting EBV-associated products is a feasible and promising way to identify biomarkers that could assist in the diagnosis of NPC.
