As a consequence of declining β-cell function, the glucose level increase over time despite pharmacologic and lifestyle interventions and it becomes difficult to maintain HbA1c target with the conventional anti-diabetic agents.[ 13 ] Such instances necessitate either increase in drug doses or the use of combination therapies with other oral anti-diabetics or with insulin.[ 14 15 ] Currently, there are an increasing trend in the development of newer generation of anti-diabetics.
