24 Gender relations among Indian tribes have historically been more balanced and equitable; however there is an increasing trend of gender bias in tribal culture emerging due to the assimilation and modernising process. 33 34 The tribes in Kerala seem to be more equitable with a male child preference not indicated with the desire for a third child expressed when the initial two children are of the same sex.
