Furthermore, the response of AGB to drought was weaker in experiments than in observations when we conducted an unweighted meta-analysis (marginal significance; Supplementary Note 4 ) or analysed the data that were excluded from the focal analysis (wet sites, grasslands with plant cover data and shrublands; Supplementary Note 5 ).
