Third , existing research into community resilience has focused more on the efforts of governments (Pathak & Ahmad, 2018 ), external bodies (Islam & Walkerden, 2015 ) and neighbours (Aldrich & Meyer, 2015 ), while largely overlooking the highly significant role of religious scholars and community elders in coordinating and activating a concerted community response to crisis or disaster.
