The proportion of isolates with increased ertapenem MICs (MICs of ≥0.125 mg/L) showed an increasing trend during the study period in the absence of clinical use, which may have been the result of the yearly increase in the proportion of isolates that contained the penA mosaic allele, also shown in our study.
