MRIs performed on animals at later time points showed possible loss of cells within these regions as significant decreases in volume were observed in the pontine central gray, which included the locus coeruleus, and a trend toward significance in the periaqueductal grey, which included the dorsal raphe, but without apparent alteration in T1 relaxation for any sleep-regions assessed.
