Studies have also shown that there may be significant gray matter volume loss in the right orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) in patients with post-infectious olfactory disfunction and that there may be a significant negative correlation between the volume of gray matter in the right OFC as well as olfactory bulb volume with the duration of olfactory loss in these post-infectious olfactory loss patients versus normal controls.
