4.4 Pulmonary embolism (PE) The DOAC therapy does reduce the incidence of PE in patients with active cancer compared to LMWH but there was borderline significant difference between the DOAC and LMWH groups in the incidence of pulmonary embolism amongst cancer patients (Hazard ratio [HR] 0.71, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.47–1.06; P = 0.10; I 2 = 7%) ( Fig. 4 ). 4.5 All-cause mortality Pooled analysis shows a lower rate of mortality in patients treated with DOACs compared to conventional therapy of either VKA or LMWH, however, no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups of cancer patients.
