Despite almost insignificant electronegativity differences, [3] the rocksalt type and related structures—usually found in ionic compounds—are common for GeTe, SnTe, and PbTe for which tetrahedral coordination (with shorter bond lengths needed for covalent bonding) would look more typical, at least at first sight.
