Results Spatial distribution and change differences in the average annual NDVI in the fourteen contiguous areas of dire poverty The value range of the average annual NDVI in the fourteen contiguous areas of dire poverty was between -0.17 and 0.89 at the cell level between 2000 and 2019, which showed significant spatial heterogeneity and generally showed a decreasing trend from the contiguous poverty areas located in southern and eastern China to those located in western and northern China ( Fig 3 ).
