In the European Union, the incidence of human trichinellosis has shown a decreasing trend during the last decades ( EFSA, 2007 ; Murrell and Pozio, 2011 ; European Food Safety Authority, 2019 ), although in industrialized countries cases of trichinellosis due to the consumption of meat of wild boar and other game animals have increased up to several hundred cases ( Rostami et al., 2017 ; European Food Safety Authority, 2019 ).
