Many studies have already shown that an increasing trend of biochemical parameters, such as CRP, IL-6, D-dimer, neutrophil, and lymphocyte count [ 4 , 5 ] gives only a limited picture of a patient’s clinical condition and the search for new biomarkers that positively correlate with the need for intubation and mortality is still of great importance.
